Implementation of quantum-safe optical networks

Optical networks are susceptible to fiber tapping and the industry has adopted encryption over optical fiber using standardized methods such as AES-256. However, encryption keys themselves are established by public-key cryptosystems such as (EC)DH which can be easily broken by attacks using quantum computers. In this talk, we will present our challenges to implement quantum-safe optical networks using QKD and PQC, in particular, a McEliece-based key establishment mechanism.

An Alternative and Tool: The Dual Aspects of the Multivariate Approach for Security

Multivariate-based cryptography represents one of the main candidates to replace classical cryptosystems. The underlying computational problems are resistant even against powerful quantum computer attacks. It offers many attractive features, most notably extremely short signatures, even shorter than elliptic-curve signatures. On the other hand, the multivariate-based approach is utilized to assess the security of commonly used ciphers, such as AES, which represents one of the basic tools of security protocols in general. In this talk, the dual aspects of the multivariate-based approach will be introduced.

Long-Term Protection of Integrity and Confidentiality: Security Foundations and System Constructions

Huge amounts of digital information require secure storage systems that protect data integrity and confidentiality over decades or even centuries. In this talk we will show how renewable cryptography (e.g., Renewable Signatures) and information theoretic cryptography (e.g., QKD, Secret Sharing) can be combined to ensure these protection goals.

Long-Term Security Challenges Ahead of Automotive Applications: An Industrial Perspective

Modern Vehicles have a product life time of more than 20 years, hence long-term security strategies are essential. This talk will provide a first glance of the upcoming challenges for the automotive industry with perspective to long-term quantum safe security solutions from a Tier-one perspective. One core topic is the ability of updating security solutions and cryptographic algorithms by enabling crypto-agility. In addition, we will discuss possible application of PQC algorithm on basic automotive security use cases.
